SBC launches its OTT service SBC+ powered by UniqCast Platform

The Seychelles – December 18th, 2024 – The Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is pleased to announce the rollout of its OTT service, ‘SBC+'. 

Launched with the tagline ‘Your Screen, Your Choice’, the new service will allow viewers to stream SBC programmes on their smart devices, such as phones, tablets and smart TVs. The service also has a catch-up feature, allowing users to watch programmes up to 5 days after they have been broadcast.

Service Availability and Future Plans

SBC+ is currently being offered as a free-to-view service to the Seychelles territory only. However, SBC is planning to launch a paid subscription service in the coming months for its VoD (Video-on-Demand) Catalogue and which will be available to the Seychelles diaspora and any global subscriber.

Strategic Partnership with UniqCast

SBC has worked closely with UniqCast, a company based in Croatia, to implement its OTT service. Technical Infrastructure and Local Partnerships

The new service will also leverage local edge servers to optimise the delivery of content closer to the subscribers and reduce data costs. The edges servers have been installed at the premises of all the 3 Internet Service Providers in the Seychelles, namely Airtel, Intelvision and Cable and Wireless.

SBC’s Head of Engineering and Technology, Hervé Cherry who has been leading the project’s implementation on the SBC’s side said: “We are very appreciative of the collaboration from the Internet Service Providers, who have ensured that their respective clients receive the SBC+ services via their existing broadband or mobile packages. SBC would not have been able to afford to provide a free SBC+ service locally otherwise. This kind of collaboration is a very good example where local technology companies can come together to move the country further in the digital era.”

Mobile and Smart TV Access

The SBC+ mobile apps can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices from their respective stores. The same Android App can also be used on Google smart TVs.

Aside from the mobile apps, registered users can also access the SBC+ through the link https://ott.sbc.sc/ as a web application on their PCs or smart TVs that are web-enabled.
